Enemies are the entities which oppose the player as they navigate the castle. While Bosses always have the same stats, enemies have different stats depending on the difficulty of the zone in which they appear.

Enemies can drop several useful things on death: gold, health items, cells, weapon and skill blueprints, or (rarely) a pickup, Liposuction, or an equipment item (weapon, skill or amulet).

Elite enemies[edit | edit source]

Some enemies can appear as Elite variants which are much tougher than their normal versions. These Elite enemies sometimes spawn randomly in a zone, but they can also be summoned by walking close enough to an Elite obelisk. Random Elites can be found mired in a disgusting substance until the player gets close enough for them to free themselves and start attacking. Certain areas will have an Elite enemy that drops a rune on their first kill, but won't spawn again on future runs once the Rune has been collected. Areas such as the Castle will always have Elites that will drop a key for progression. These will always be the same type of enemy.

Once an Elite enemy begins to attack the player, the name of the enemy type is briefly shown on screen. Also, at all times, a "name tag" hovers over the enemy which indicates that they are an Elite version, and an aura can be seen surrounding the Elite enemy.

Special abilities[edit | edit source]

In addition to possessing high damage and a large health pool, Elite enemies summon minions and have a high resistance to controlling status effects such as stun and freeze, shortening their durations significantly. When an Elite enemy's health is brought below 50% of maximum health, they emit a stunning and repulsing shockwave, grow in size, and gain the ability to rapidly teleport next to the player if the player is not within range of their attacks.

The 1.1 Pimp My Run update introduced special abilities for Elites. Those abilities can be frighteningly dangerous, depending on the level layout, the type of enemy and the player's current build. Special abilities can infect the player with the Malaise on Nightmare (4 BSC) difficulty. The different types of special abilities are as follows:

  • Invisibility: the Elite cannot be seen, but the attack prompts are still visible
  • Clone: the Elite summons a clone of himself. Both Elites have only 55% of their usual total HP.
  • Rotating laser which surrounds the Elite
  • Horizontal laser on ground level that periodically activates and damages the player on both sides of the Elite
  • Red spherical aura similar to that of Shockers, Concierge or Conjunctivius
  • Horizontal laser that slowly ascends, bumping the player repeatedly upwards if they get caught in it
  • Force field maintained by two crystals on both sides of the Elite. The Elite cannot take any damage until those crystals are destroyed, and the crystals respawn after 6 seconds. Elites equipped with this ability will not follow The Beheaded by teleporting.
  • Crystal that hovers above the Elite shoots a rapid volley of projectiles at the player
  • Electric cage that surrounds the Elite and which hurts the player if they try to get out of it

On death, Elite enemies always drop an equipment item (a weapon, skill or amulet) with an item level 2 levels higher than the normal item level for the current zone.
