When the player's body is desecrated, the run ends and they are sent back to the Prisoner's Cells, where they find a new body. All cells and blueprints that have not been turned in to the Collector are lost, as well as level progress and currently equipped weapons, skills, and amulets. Additionally, some amount of gold is lost, depending on the player's current gold recovery; the remainder can be found in a dead man's purse next to the player's new body.

The layouts of the biomes are procedurally generated each run.[1]

Trivia

It is possible for the player to die without their body being desecrated, by picking the Ygdar Orus Li Ox mutation (but it won't prevent death by curse).
